She has been a bundle of joy to our family. She’s our “new baby”.
When I used to work on the campus of Tuskegee University years ago, a student asked us to watch her dog for a few days until she got back.
Keep in mind…I wasn’t a “dog lover” (at all!) at the time. If anyone would’ve asked me about owning a dog, let alone watching one, my answer would have been an emphatic no!
“I’m not trying to labor for a dog…only my children and family,” I would always say in a serious but kind way.
Then Spirit, the dog who we watched while the young lady was away, melted my determined-not-to-like-dogs heart. She was special. She liked me…as if I was her Dad or something. I would take her outside to use the bathroom and she would jump around joyfully as to express how proud she was of me. Now you see why my heart melted:-)?
The owner came back and actually offered to give her to us. At the time, we said yes but thought the timing was bad…our youngest girl Ayden was a baby. So I said, “When Spirit has babies, then we’ll get one from you.”
Three years later Spirit, has had babies…and the owner called saying emphatically, “I have the dog picked out specifically for your family.”
I thought to myself, “The timing isn’t good now because our money isn’t in a good place to provide for another.” I almost decided to not get her… until I “ran into” a verse during my bible reading one morning. And it read: O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill?…he who swears to his own hurt and does not change (Psalms 15:1, 4b). In other words…do what you said you were going to do…and that is getting the dog when she has babies (like I said).
Well…you know what that means…a brotha “needs to be” faithful!
God has honored our faithfulness by having a friend of ours to give us a dog crate (worth $150).
So…with joy we welcome our new baby, Macy!
