Well, after 17 years of teaching God’s word, the Lord saw fit for me to receive a license to preach. And on the day I received my license, my family was in attendance…“deep”.
Now, I was very excited for my church family to be in attendance to support me in this event. These are the men and women God has used in my life (and many more) to affirm me in this calling. I was even more excited to see many of my relatives attending the service as well.
My parents came down from Fort Washington, Maryland to be there. I really didn’t expect them to come. I remember telling my Daddy on the phone, “Daddy, I’m gonna get licensed to preach next week.” I only said that to keep him informed. He responded, to my surprise, but to no surprise, “Okay…we’re going to have to come down and be a part of that.” Wow…what parents my God has given to me!
My grandmother, uncle and auntie came from Tampa, Florida. I couldn’t hold it together when I saw my grandmother. She had some health complications earlier and on top of that I had no clue she was coming. When I laid eyes on her…the waterfall broke loose!
And many of my uncles, aunties, and cousins came from different cities in Alabama to be a part as well. This is one of the reasons why I came down to Alabama from Maryland to go to school…the many relatives I have here.
OH THE JOY THAT FILLED MY HEART TO SEE MY RELATIVES THERE!
When you have family (or people) who care about you come to support what God is doing in your life, the experience is PRICELESS.
After preaching through I John 2:15-17 (here), many of my relatives came afterwards and thanked me for doing a good job. They came to experience a day, where for the first time ever, I attempted to preach without using any notes. The purpose of that was to preach in the vein God has made me to communicate… without getting so locked in on my notes.
I will never forget this day…how God encouraged me so!
